Discrimination- treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.
Our teachers and school are too, eager to discriminate against or put a brand on a child,ODD or ADHD.This allows them to have a teacher’s aide to assist them and so listening their work load. The more kids with problems the teacher gets more help the class room. I believe, that as the child is the one with the diagnosis, Teachers and headmasters force parents into getting children medicated to allow more aides in the class room. The principal of our local school, told me to medicate Dan or he could not attend his school. He stood over me and screamed that Dan had a mental disease. WITHOUT MY CONSCENT and WITHOUT a Doctors appointment , as it was some 6 months after Dan attended a school referral doctor , who is quite well known in our area. The good doctor made a diagnosis. this was done at the request of course the headmaster, to get Dan assistance in the class room. The teacher was making Dan the naughty boy and it was she who needs the help not Dan, but never the less Dan was suspended in May of kindergarten for 4 days. I did make a complaint to the medical association about the good doctor and they said this would never happen to another child. This diagnosis has distroyed Dans entusiasm for learning and has taught Dan many bad learning practices. It has also had a huge impact on Dan's behavioural development. The aide should be for the child but alas as our system works, the teacher gets a helper because of the child. I know this to be true as i have been fighting the education department for the past 7 years. The first instance was in kindergarten when, after telling Dan teacher Mrs Giles about Dans life briefly she immediately decided Dan would be trouble and she looked for every little thing that he did and reported him. Dan was sat at a table alone in front of the class. He was made fun of because of this by the children and soon a bright child became as dumb and stupid as the kids kept calling him. Dont sit back and let your child be bullied by teachers. When a teacher singles out a child, the other children in the class will follow her lead and tease and torment the child who has no one to turn to. Did you know there is a sight where schools can put comments about bad kids and its not accessible to parents? Should you decided to send your child to a private school they will definitely look this list up. No hope for children once they have been branded as a bad child and put on this list. My grandson was put on such a list by a local private College as when the only aussie child in a foreign school was allowed to have dirt thrown in his face by other students, drink bottles tossed over the fence daily, or being dragged along the ground daily, an aide was supplied by docs 9 am - 3 pm, 5 days a week, to assist Dan and at the end of term 3 Dan could not write his name and no one listening to what he as saying. Dan complained that his aide didn't help him and I also protested to DoCS who paid this aide, no -one would listen, so one day he took his blazer off and peed on it, to show his disgust at what was happening to him. For this the principal wrote "Dan left an imprint on every child in the school. " This is a site apparently where schools can leave comments on children for private schools to read. When a child tries to enter a private school this register is checked. Back to the public system and Dan was refused entry to the local public school, unless he attended Mulloka a behavioural school where only 6 students attended and there were as many teachers. Teachers had their own way, approved by the education department of handling these kids. Violence was the answer, as the kids were frog marched to an isolation room. 18 months later i send Dan to Tassie to live with his mum and when this didn't work out Dan returned as a new enrolment and our local school had to accept him. Dan did well for 18 months and attended 2 principals excursions. Then a new headmaster, arrived and he and the teacher, decided Dan was a naughty boy.Dan was refused to go to the school year 5 school camp as he sometimes wet his pants i was told at first , then it was the teachers were not prepared to take Dan. One of the teachers who I believe was discriminating is a teacher who has been attending school for many years drunk or smelling of Alcohol. When this teacher feels like it she would belittle Dan by telling him he is a baby and stupid in front of other children. The principal had been in the school 3 days when i first met him and all he could say was Dan is a naughty boy. He was not aware that Dan had an aide. Who was discriminatiing against Dan. The education department and I had many meetings.
The school councellor said in a report for funding that Dan was the unhappiest child he had ever met in his 25 years of working with children. My question was why was Dan so unhappy at school? Dan only ever got into trouble when his aide was not in the room, being sent to do teachers work like photo copying. Dan once again became dumb and stupid. Some of the children in the class would give Dan a hard time. These kids are good at doing things and saying things that they know will stir Dan up. Things like sexual stuff about Dan and myself. I am Dan's grandmother but also his mother as he has no other and these things would hurt Dan. The teacher only ever saw Dan and he would be in trouble if he walked away or if he stood and fought. Other children from Dans class have told me how horrible the teacher was to Dan and how she picked on him whenever Dan’s teacher’s aide left the room. The children in the class room told me this.
This year Dan was supposed to start high school and because of his lack of education i have insisted that Dan repeat year 6. Dan was not the only child who didn’t’ really graduate to high school, but all the others went on ready or not and were given graduation certificates. What does this say about our education system?
